Spring Ahead!

Well spring is rapidly approaching, and shows in the sowthwest are everywhere.  In the last three weeks I have been to San Antonio, Belton, two district shows and about ten county shows.  I still enjoy traveling this time of year, as the countryside starts  tocome to life and families come together to show livestock it makes me feel 16yrs old again!  Ha Ha (I had my 54th birthday March3rd)  I honestly don't remember anything I did at 16 that I liked more than going to shows.  I often reminisce about the old days and how this whole show industry has what future hold for young livestock enthusiests.  I'll throw out a few random thoughts (things that pass the time while driving between shows) and would welcome a few from you all as well.

     1) It's been a long time since a boar has been as hot as Super Monster! He sired as many major show winners this year as any I can remember. (Since maybe Slam Dunk, Alley Cat, 105 ???

     2) Online sales are everywhere and very, very successfull!  I sincerely hope those that are selling pigs are representing them honestly.  I think they are a tremendous marketing tool and I hope we all realize they will end up in the hands of impressionable young people!

     3) As the prices of pigs continue to rise, I hope we don't price some out of the game.  The very reason I ended up in the industry was the belief that an average hard-working kid had a chance.

    4) I hope greed does not supercede the teaching of ethical lifestyle to our youth!

     5) Finally, I hope we all remember why we love this industry as we do, and that we DO NEED the support of the outside world for our literal existence.  I will stop with that as I'm starting to sound like a 54 year old instead of the 16 year old I long to go back to!  LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!
